With the extension of Murphy Reid through 2032, I was discussing "culture" on X earlier. I make the case that getting rid of Rory Lobb and signing Patrick Voss has been the biggest shift in our forward line but also a seismic shift in culture at Freo. Apparently, there were about 30 players participating in the "Voss Academy" this morning. Voss is a player that by any measure would be considered a bottom 5 player.

Let's contrast that with Rory Lobb. He came to the Dockers to be the top key forward, but he never seemed fully committed to what Fremantle was doing. His play was inconsistent and he often put the blame on his teammates. He would sook about his role of part-time ruck. This isn't someone with leadership qualities. We have all worked with soul suckers. That's what we are talking about.

On paper, getting rid of Lobb was extremely controversial, but it may ultimately be the catalyst that has brought this team from the middle of the pack to top of the ladder. This is a team that loves playing for each other. So many players are signing long term extensions because they believe in what's happening. What Voss lacks in talent and skill, he is worth every cent for his impact on culture.
